The Company Is the Vehicle—People Are the Purpose

Legendary coach Lou Holtz used to say his job wasn’t coaching football.
His job was preparing young people to succeed in life. Football was simply the vehicle.
That idea translates surprisingly well to leadership in business.
Most organizations believe the work is about the product, the strategy, or the quarterly results.
But the best leaders understand something deeper. The company is the vehicle.
It’s the environment where people learn how to solve difficult problems, communicate clearly, take responsibility, and eventually lead others.
When leaders see their role this way, they stop managing tasks and start developing people.
And over time, the organizations that invest in people tend to outperform those that focus only on outcomes.
Because when people grow, the organization grows with them.
